The settlement of past human rights violations in Indonesia

Efforts to address past human rights violations in Indonesia have experienced both benefits and drawbacks, creating a dilemma for administrations including the governments headed by Abdurrahman Wahid, Megawati, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Joko Widodo. Attempts utilize court mechanism resolving East Timor Tanjung Priok violation cases were unsuccessful. Furthermore, Truth Reconciliation Commission (TRC) produced little progress reconciling. This article proposes alternative solutions challenge of Indonesia. The main issue addressed is what kind settlement would be practical. By employing normative legal research, study concludes that complexity political sensitivity each case require distinct resolution approaches. Notably, author recommends reconciliation should implemented some cases, while utilized others.
